Discussion ”The Role of Public Service Media and Media Regulators in the Area of Fake News and Disinformation“ took place in Vilnius

On December 15, the first round table discussion took place in Vilnius, which reviewed and evaluated media independence and its objectivity in the countries of the Baltic, Eastern and Central European regions. Media experts from Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary, Moldova, Croatia, Bulgaria and Great Britain attended the event and presented the results of monitoring of their national broadcasters.

Seminar "Russia’s Influence in the Baltic Sea Region National and Institutional experiences countering hybrid threats" was held in Vilnius
On November 6-7, an international seminar "Russia’s Influence in the Baltic Sea Region National and Institutional experiences countering hybrid threats" was held in Vilnius. The seminar was organized by the European Center for Excellence for Counter-Hybrid Threats in co-operation with the Eastern Europe Studies Center (EESC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

The first Vilnius Young Leaders Meeting was held in Vilnius

On September 25 - 29, 26 young professionals from the Baltic States, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine attended the 1st Vilnius Young Leaders Meeting (VYLM). Participants were selected from a pool of over 300 applications were among main requirements were interest, experience and unique approach to solving disinformation and propaganda related problems in their respective countries and the broader region.

International Security Experts Conference "Eastern Partners in European Security and Defence - Putting EU Global Strategy into Practice"

On 27 of September 2017, EESC together with Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence and partners organized the third annual International Security Experts Conference “Eastern Partners in European Security and Defence - Putting EU Global Strategy into Practice”.

The focus of the Conference was on security environment in and around Europe, as well as on ways to take forward EU engagement with Eastern Partners in security and defence. The invited participants reflected on partner countries’ contribution to EU crisis management efforts, as well as on the possibilities for the EU to support resilience of Eastern Partners, their security sector reforms and capacity building efforts. The Conference gathered government officials, members of civil society, as well as security and defence experts from six Eastern Partnership countries, European Union Member States, and representatives of the EU institutions.
