Baltic Security Situation: A Short Overview September 19, 2016, 11:54

Here we represent the text by EESC intern, which overviews the Baltic Security Situation though the perspective of relevant geopolitical events. The paper analyzes: which regional security threats are foreseen, which strategies to eliminate these threats are implemented and which questions are left behind the boundaries of discussions. The first part overviews two main factors of the threats to security: traditional military aggression of Russia and the company of hybrid war implemented by Kremlin. The second part shortly overviews the actions causing danger to security which are usualy ignored in the dominant discourse: it is economical, political and social climate of Baltic states as well as the lack of tri-pary cooperation.

L. Kojala is the new Director of EESC July 04, 2016, 18:16

Linas Kojala has been named the new Director of Eastern Europe studies centre, starting from the July 1st, 2016. He replaces Acting Director dr. Laurynas Kasčiūnas, who will pursue a career in politics, though will stay in EESC as a Senior Analyst for the time being.

International conference “Strengthening of the Social Resilience to Hybrid Challenges in the Baltic region” March 03, 2016, 12:44

The representatives of EESC have participated in the international conference “Strengthening of the Social Resilience to Hybrid Challenges in the Baltic region”, where the influence of rift between Russia and the West, and the threat to Baltic countries were discussed. The participants of the conference expressed concern and signed a call for strengthening cooperation between Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine, with the emphasis on determination of threats from Russia and development of deterrence instruments.

In the fourth issue of “Prism.UA” we are pleased to present the analysis by Sergiy Gerasymchuk from Strategic and Security Studies Group. The author provides an overview of the general approaches of the stakeholders in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and broader – regional and even global – conclusions concerning Russia’s aspirations. The author argues that “the crisis in Ukraine” is only a small part of the geopolitical puzzle that Russia is playing in global affairs.

On May 24th, the 5th Ukraine Reality Check was held in Kyiv, Ukraine.  Organized by EESC, the event was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia with programmatic contribution from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

EESC invites Belarusian youth studying in Belarus and abroad to apply for the 10th United Students of Belarus (USB) Rally to be held on July 3-5, 2017 in Vilnius, Lithuania. 10 year anniversary meeting is set to recall, review and celebrate achievements of the USB Rally initiative and to further foster connections between Belarusian youth studying in Belarus and abroad. The 10th USB Rally is organized by EESC with support of the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, the Swedish Institute and the Embassy of Sweden in Vilnius, together with the Global Belarusian Leaders and in cooperation with the EuroBelarus and the European Humanities University.
Vilnius Russia Forum 2017 May 18, 2017, 15:14
On May 18th – 19th EESC co-operating with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and International Elections Studies Centre (IESC) is organizing Vilnius Russia Forum 2017, the fourth consecutive meeting of leading thinkers and practitioners on Russia. The event will gather prominent political experts from Russia and the West to discuss relevant issues of Russian domestic and foreing policies.

Launch of a new project in Georgia

On May 2-5, EESC Policy Analyst Dovilė Šukytė visited Georgia where together with partners launched the new project entitled: Georgia on European Way: Creation of Effective Model for DCFTA and SME Strategy Implementation. The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacities of Georgian civil society (CSOs) along the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area) implementation process. The 2 year project is funded by the European Neighbourhood Instrument of the European Union.
EESC presented monograph “Scenarios of Russia's Development” in Vilnius Book Fair February 24, 2017, 13:42
On February 23 analysts of Eastern European Studies Centre (EESC) alongside with researchers from Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences (IIRPS) in the 18-th annual Vilnius book fair presented monograph “Scenarios of Russia's Development: Implications for the Lithuanian and Regional Security”, which was released in the end of 2016. Monograph was presented and discussed by 4 of its authors: director of EESC Linas Kojala, EESC analyst Vytautas Keršanskas, IIRPS professor Tomas Janeliūnas and IIRPS associate professor Laurynas Jonavičius.
