In the fourth issue of “Prism.UA” we are pleased to present the analysis by Sergiy Gerasymchuk from Strategic and Security Studies Group. The author provides an overview of the general approaches of the stakeholders in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and broader – regional and even global – conclusions concerning Russia’s aspirations. The author argues that “the crisis in Ukraine” is only a small part of the geopolitical puzzle that Russia is playing in global affairs.

It is our pleasure to present the third piece of the digest “Prism.UA”. This time we focus on two very sensitive domestic issues in Ukraine. The decentralisation reform and the local election process are closely interconnected and therefore legitimately share the space in this publication. Local elections which are currently underway in Ukraine cause some concerns inside the country and within the international community. Against the backdrop of the necessity to reset the local governance level formed back in 2010 under Yanukovich, there are still some problems to be seriously addressed.

The second issue of "PRISM.UA" invites our readers to look deeper into the ongoing hybrid war that Russia is waging in Ukraine. Despite the fact that the last couple of weeks are promising as it looks like the military actions are suspended, yet there are too many questions unanswered and talking about the end of conflict is too premature. In this issue of "PRISM.UA", on the one hand, we are trying to analyse other than military tools which Russia employes against Ukraine.

Future Search: Pact releases strategic report on Belarus' civil society September 12, 2015, 15:07
Despite the post-2010 crackdown and ensuing repressions, Belarusian civil society has seen positive developments due to emergence of new civic actors, initiatives, increased CSO visibility and better engagement with target groups.At the same time, the issue of trust remains the core challenge of Belarus’ civil society development, as low level of trust toward CSOs among the citizenry results in weak civic activeness and participation in CSO initiatives. These are a few of the key findings of the newly released 2015 Future Search Report by Pact based on a working meeting of 39 representatives of Belarus’ civil society, which took place June 4 - 6, 2015, in Vilnius, Lithuania. The report is access free and can be downloaded in English and Russian.

New Monthly Digest on Ukraine PRISM.UA August 14, 2015, 10:10
EESC is happy to introduce the first piece of the monthly digest “Prism.UA” which is devoted to analysing the ongoing social, political and economic processes in Ukraine. Even though Ukraine has been at the centre of world attention for quite some time, the reason behind the project is to present more qualitative and reliable expertise for stakeholders in the EU and Eastern Partnership. The core group of experts engaged in this project constitutes the expert network “Ukrainian prism”, the initiative of like-minded people in Ukraine with strong expertise in political sciences, economics, diplomacy and international relations. Meeting with the Levada Centre expert Natalia Zorkaya May 17, 2016, 12:12
On May 17, EESC hosted a meeting with Natalia Zorkaya, Director of the Socio-political Research Department at the Levada Center. During the meeting, Ms Zorkaya presented the latest findings of the public opinion polls in Russia, which reflected a dominant mood of Russian citizens regarding the quality of life and approval for President. International processes were also included and revealed that last year’s confrontation between Russia and the EU negatively affected Russian population’s perception of Russia as a European country.

EESC announces registration to the United Students of Belarus Rally 2016 April 29, 2016, 13:54
EESC invites Belarusian youth studying in Belarus and abroad to apply for the 9th United Students of Belarus (USB) Rally scheduled to take place on June 29- July 1, 2016 in Vilnius, Lithuania. This year USB Rally will be devoted to fostering intercultural dialogue and defining Belarus’ European identity. Historical memory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and a long-running friendship between Belarus and Lithuania will be used to inspire lively and reciprocal conversations, as well as unique experiences of different Belarusian diasporas, including of those of the USB Rally participants.

Conference Findings Presented at the EEAS Panel on Co-operation in the Area of CSDP

On April 25, EESC Policy Analyst Dovile Sukyte attended the European External Action Service organized Panel on Co-operation in the Area of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) within the Eastern Partnership (EaP) Platform on Democracy, Good Governance and Stability, where she presented the key findings of the International Security Experts Conference “EU Global Strategy: Eastern Partners in European Security”. International Security Experts Conference "EU Global Strategy: Eastern Partners in European Security" March 04, 2016, 09:38
On March 2-4, EESC together with Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence and partners organized an International Security Experts Conference "EU Global Strategy: Eastern Partners in European Security". The Conference focused on security environment in and around Europe, as well on possible ways for greater EU engagement with Eastern Partners in security and defence. The main aim was to provide an opportunity for the Eastern Partnership countries to voice their security concerns and share ideas on the future of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).  During the Conference, the Eastern Partner countries were also given an opportunity to make their contribution to the ongoing debate on the new EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy.

DCFTA Implementation in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Opportunities February 27, 2016, 16:45
On January 27, EESC together with the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and in cooperation with the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union organized  a discussion “DCFTA Implementation in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Opportunities”. During the event two recent studies, including EESC led research “Economic Challenges of Ukraine and Moldova on the Way to EU” were presented. Presentations were followed by the remarks of Petras Auštrevičius, MEP (ALDE), Member of AFET, DROI, European Parliament, and Arnoldas Pranckevičius, Adviser for External Policies, Cabinet of the President, European Parliament, and discussion with the audience.
