Latvian NGO visits Vilnius to learn about Lithuania’s EU Presidency

On April 16, EESC hosted a meeting with Latvian NGO delegation, which came to Vilnius to learn about Lithuanian experiences during the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2013. During two days visit Latvian NGO representatives met with their Lithuanian counterparts, as well as with Lithuanian MFA officials.

At EESC, guest from Latvia met with Centre’s director Kristina Vaičiūnaitė who has acknowledged the role of civil society in such challenging events for country as EU Presidency and shared observations and practical tips for the upcoming Latvian EU Presidency. During Lithuania’s EU Presidency EESC held Civil Society Conference „Eastern Partnership Reality Check: Political Challenges and Future Agenda for Civil Society“. The Conference took place on the margins of the EU Eastern Partnership Summit on 26-28 November, 2013.

NGO representatives from Latvia also met with Marta Čubajevaitė, Executive Direct of National Non-governmental Development Cooperation Organization’s Platform, Martynas Žaltauskas, Coordinator of Lithuanian Greens, and Virginija Aleksejūnė, Director of the Center for Equality Advancement.

Latvia takes over EU Presidency on July 1, 2015.
