On October 8-10, EESC together with the Lithuanian MFA and in cooperation with the Center for Equality Advancement (Lithuania), Nordic Council of Ministers, Women’s Democracy Network at the International Republican Institute (USA), Community of Democracies Working Group on Women and Democracy, Vilnius University Gender Studies Center and Swedish International Liberal Centre is organizing a conference „Empowering Women in Development: Challenges Beyond 2015“.
The Vilnius based conference will concentrate on the issues of women’s role in politics, economics, and global development, the main goal of the event is to strengthen and expand partnerships for the promotion of the gender equality aspect in the post-2015 agenda, and mainstream the gender equality in development both on the theoretical and practical levels.
The 3-day event will gather most prominent women activists, politicians, entrepreneurs, journalists, academia and other experts from the European Union and its neighborhoods, Middle East and other regions. The Conference will be opened by a welcome speech of the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and opening remarks of professor Olha Bogomolets who was the only female contender in 2014 Ukrainian presidential election.
The list of speakers will include such renowned experts as Maria Leissner, Secretary General of the Community of Democracies, Vered Per Swid, Director General of the Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women (Israel), Genoveva Tisheva, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Director of the Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation, Annette Young, journalist at the France Medias Monde, Sameena Imtiaz, Executive Director of the Peace Education and Development Foundation (Pakistan) and Noura al-Ameer, Vice-President of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces.
