On 3 – 4 September, EESC together with NGDO Platform organized training for journalists, attended by more than 25 national and regional media representatives.
The training was led by the former BBC journalist Martin Atkin, also known for his work as communications manager in many non-governmental organizations, Greenpeace and Fairtrade. In addition, Executive Director of NGDO Platform Marta Čubajevaitė presented development cooperation as such, emphasizing Lithuania’s and its non-governmental organizations’ contribution to global poverty reduction policy.
During the training, the lecturer highlighted the role of media as public opinion makers, who serves as transmitter between the events in the world and the society. The journalists discussed how to present the news adequately and objectively and how to capture the readers’ attention.
The event was organized in the framework of the project ‘2015 European Year for Development: the Role of Media‘. The project is funded by the European Union and Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
