On June 25th, the Eastern Europe Studies Centre organised the discussion “Expectations for the NATO Summit 2024 in Washington”. The panel included the American ambassador to Lithuania, Kara C. McDonald, the Dutch ambassador to Lithuania, Jack Twiss Quarles van Ufford, and the Polish ambassador to Lithuania, Konstanty Radziwiłł. The ambassadors anticipated that the upcoming summit will primarily focus on supporting Ukraine and solidifying its integration into NATO, enhancing NATO’s defence on the Eastern flank and exploring new partnerships.
It is likely that one major topic of discussion will be Ukraine’s future NATO membership, reflecting the ongoing negotiations for military and political integration. The ambassadors also acknowledged the importance of expanding NATO’s relationships and therefore NATO’s relation with the EU, Indio-Pacific region and its stance on China could also be topics of debate.
